Clinical Pastoral Care Education comes to Bentley

May 22, 2015

For the first time, a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) unit is being offered at Bentley Health Service for pastoral care staff and volunteers.

Clinical Pastoral Supervisor Rev’d Judith Peterkin said pastoral care training had previously been centralised at Royal Perth Hospital.

“We are delighted to have four participants in the first round of training at Bentley,” Rev’d Peterkin said.

“Pastoral care is becoming an integral part of the hospital and this training allows volunteers and staff to prepare themselves for pastoral care roles within the health service.”

The program aims to provide an opportunity to develop competency in pastoral care and help participants gain confidence in pastoral practice.  Bentley has been chosen to offer these units to cater for staff, volunteers and community members who work in the outer metropolitan area.

“Participants are exposed to a wide range of learning practices. The training includes seminar style learning and small peer group discussions and teaches a multicultural approach to spiritual care,” Rev’d Peterkin said.
