General Practitioner Liaison Service

The General Practitioner (GP) Liaison Service at Bentley Health Service (BHS) assists GPs in the management of mental health problems by providing assessment and consultation services for persons aged 18 and over who are experiencing moderate to severe or complex mental health concerns.

Assistance is provided either via telephone call or in a GP environment.

The GP Liaison Service is provided by the following team:

  • Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Medical Officer
  • Psychiatric Registrar
  • Mental Health Nurse.

Aims

  • Develop relationships and work collaboratively with GPs to provide better outcomes for patients
  • Provide support and education for GPs in the management of mental health in the community
  • Assist GPs to navigate mental health services and optimise resources
  • Provide advice and information on available community resources
  • Assist the Bentley-Armadale Medicare Local in mental health education and support

Services provided

  • Assessment / diagnostic reviews
  • Phone advice on management
  • Short term support for GP patients
  • Information sessions, workshops, small group learning
  • Practice nurse support

As a GP you are more than welcome to discuss any referral with triage and if required can ask to speak with the Duty Medical Officer (DMO).
