WA Health Excellence Awards finalist

October 26, 2014

Bentley Health Service Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program is a finalist in the 2014 WA Health Excellence Awards. Launched earlier this year, the program provides onsite employment assistance for mental health consumers.

South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) Mental Health Area Manager Mark Pestell said the IPS program helps clients find employment according to their strengths and abilities – which also plays an active part in the road to recovery.

“The onsite employment consultant takes the interests of the individual and uses these to provide assistance in sourcing a suitable job,” said Mark.

“Employment helps our clients reintegrate into community life. Employment boosts their self-worth, and improves their recovery through regular social engagement with other members of the community.”

The pilot program is the first of its kind for WA Health and is a partnership between SMHS Mental Health Services and two disability support providers.

The initiative is supported by the West Australian Association of Mental Health and the Mental Health Commission and also operates in Armadale and Fremantle.

The Program is in the running to with an award in Category 3: Strategic Partnerships.
