Older Adult Mental Health

The following information on referring patients assists General Practitioners (GPs) in facilitating a referral, and to minimise patient waiting times.

Eligibility

To be eligible for referral to Bentley Older Adult Mental Health Service, consumers must reside in the following areas:

Kensington Kewdale
Lynwood Manning
Redcliffe Riverton
Rivervale Rossmoyne
Salter Point Shelley

Wilson Victoria Park

 
Consumers must also have the following:

  • dementing disorder with behaviour disturbance
  • late onset mental illness
  • those with mental illness and whose needs are best met in elderly environment
  • under 65 years of age with pre-senile dementia or suspected pre-senile dementia

Exclusion criteria

The Older Adult Mental Health Service is not available to patients with conditions where specialist services would be more appropriate. These conditions include:

  • Intellectual disability
  • Acute physical illness/ delirium
  • Acquired brain injury

The service does not provide forensic assessments, or expert options to courts. The service is also not the appropriate agency to handle primary issues of accommodation or nursing care placement issues.

Every referral is individually assessed to determine the most appropriate treatment options or pathway for care.

Urgent referrals

Urgent referrals should be faxed, followed by a phone call made to the triage officer who will respond to the referral based on urgency.
