Maternity unit

The Maternity Unit (Ward 2) specialise in obstetrics and midwifery care. The 23-bed unit primarily provides low-risk maternity services for women within the catchment area.

Antenatal Care

Antenatal care is provided through antenatal clinics that are coordinated by midwives and a specialist Obstetrician. Specialist antenatal clinics are also available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and interpreter services are available for non-English speaking women and their families.

A number of other antenatal services are also available on an appointment basis:

  • Antenatal classes
  • Ward tours
  • Breastfeeding classes

Labour care

Labour care is provided by specialist Obstetricians, GP obstetricians and midwives. Anaesthetists are also available to attend to epidurals as well as elective and non-elective caesarean sections, and paediatricians attend births as required.

Postnatal care

Postnatal care is provided to mothers by GP Obstetricians and midwives.

The BHS Maternity Unit also operates the visiting midwifery service, which is available to women and their families that deliver and live close to the health service.

Bentley Antenatal Shared Care

Bentley Hospital is pleased to offer GPs the opportunity to share antenatal care for low risk patients.

While shared care will mostly be of interest to those patients living within the Bentley catchment, the team are happy to accept low risk antenatal ladies who live out of catchment for GP shared care, including country antenatal ladies who may have family in the Bentley area and would like to deliver at Bentley Maternity Unit.
